Nannette Noelle Zant - Team Leader

I have lived in Grand Rapids my whole life, and it is still my home. I have been married for nineteen years to my husband, Eric and I have two lovely daughters Izabella and Emmerson. I have been a licensed cosmetologist for over twenty years, and I have been fortunate enough to also be a stay at home mom. I love being able to spend time with my family, but I was ready to try something outside of the home. I started working for Seniors Moving Smarter five years ago. During this time, I have met countless people: moms, dads, grandparents, children and grandchildren. I love meeting our new families and making a difference in their lives. Our team at Seniors Moving Smarter is enthusiastic, caring and motivated. We all work well together and share a common respect for each other and our clients. I am usually in charge of the kitchen - how this happened I have no idea, but I'm getting really good at it! Every day is different at Seniors Moving Smarter and every move is unique, but in the end when a family's new residence becomes their home - that is the best.
Best skill...
Keeping things organized and leading the team.
When I'm not at work...
In my spare time I enjoy walking, try to get that in everyday. I love the beach and camping. Our favorite place is Grand Haven State Park. I like a really good suspense, thriller movie or book. I think what I love most is watching my daughters dance performances. I look forward to the future and all it brings.
Carol Hillman - Team Member

Hello. I'm Carol. I joined the team at Seniors Moving Smarter after hearing great things from my friend and neighbor, Nannette Zant who has worked for the company for several years. When we walk in the morning, Nannette is always talking about her work experiences, and I knew this would be a good fit for me. I have a busy family who appreciates the organized way our lives run and our home looks. I knew those qualities were very complimentary to what our clients are looking for in a moving service. It didn't take me long to notice the systems in place at Seniors Moving Smarter make for a less stressful day for customers that may have not moved for many, many years. I love watching projects come to an extremely successful end with all involved feeling good about the experience with us.
Best skill...
Creating an environment that puts our clients at ease.
When I'm not at work...
I am the mother of three daughters. Anne is a Doctoral candidate at Boston University receiving a fellowship there for a ThD, Doctorate in Theology. Renee is a ninth grader at Rockford Freshman Center and Eve is an eighth grader at North Rockford Middle School. I am former owner of Kindermusik of Rockford and Grand Rapids, L.L.C., and am currently in my eighth year sitting as a trustee on the Rockford Public Schools School Board. I obtained a Masters Degree from Oakland University in Rochester, MI. My husband is self-employed with two partners and many employees in a computer consulting team celebrating 20 years of service. It is called C/D/H. We both enjoy participating and being spectators in a variety of cultural events, and love spending time as a family reading, singing, playing games (board, cards, and video), and re-grouping at our log cabin.
Theresa Marklevitz - Team Member
Hi! I'm Theresa. I joined Seniors Moving Smarter in the summer of 2011. I enjoy working with my team members as they are a great bunch of people. I can also relate to our clients. My dad was in the military for 21 years and so we moved every 3 - 4 years! Professionals packed us up and moved our belongings, but we had to do the unpacking. I remember it as overwhleming and taking forever. Now I have fun packing and unpacking because I know we are making our clients transition a lot easier. When our clients go to retire in the evening or when they get up in the morning their new home looks as though they've been there forever. You'd never know they had just moved. I love to see the client's face when we are all done. They're amazed and relieved and that's what its all about.
Best Skill...
I'm good at packing the delicate and fragile things. Plus, I'm tall so I'm always checking the tops of shelves for items. I've also become rather skilled at getting our clients storage units together and I'll get the electronics up and running (because no one likes to do that!).
When I'm not at work...
I enjoy my family - my husband, my 3 girls, my step-son and my parents. Now that the kids are older and my youngest off to Michigan State I can really play in my flower beds! I also enjoy collecting rocks, pudding stones are my favorite. I collect Hippo's, but not the real ones! During the winter I sew and create things in addition to caring for my horses. I like to stay busy.
Carl A. Reid - Team Leader
Hi, I'm Carl. I started working with Seniors Moving Smarter in 2007. Although it started as an opportunity to help out for a short period of time, it has turned out to be much more. In addition to leading the team in their work with our clients, I have also been functioning as a Move-In Coordinator at Beacon Hill at Eastgate. In both positions, I am committed to all aspects of making our client's moves go smoothly and easily. As a native to Grand Rapids, I have a large network of friends and colleagues and often have personal connections with our clients. That really puts them at ease! Our clients can be a lot of fun. I love it when a client presents what they call a "problem". I always follow that statement by saying, "Let's call it an opportunity!" I enjoy problem solving and pulling things together for our clients; whether it is to do a complicated floor plan, properly hanging artwork or getting the chance to use my carpentry skills; I enjoy the challenge.
Best skill...
Installing built-in shelves, organizers, hanging flat screen TVs, and any construction related tasks.
When I'm not at work...
In my spare time I enjoy watching my two children grow and spending time with my family. When time allows I enjoy sailing and traveling to any beach I can find.
John McCulloch - Project Manager

Hi, I'm John. I am a life long West Michigan resident and have been living in Grand Rapids for the last 20 years. My wife and I met at Hope College. After graduating, we married and and moved to Grand Rapids where we enjoy living, working, playing, and raising our 2 boys. Early on, I worked in the transportation industry as a manager. Although enjoying the work, I decided to take a break and do a more important job. So, for the last few years I have been at home with my boys. They are older now and need me less, thus I decided to help my sister out with her company. From time to time she has large scale projects, such as the current one where we have been on-site move-in coordinators for a new, large, upscale retirement community. It has been lots of fun getting to quickly know the residents moving in and it has been my personal goal to make sure they feel comfortable, at home, and satisfied with the services they receive - from day one.
Best skill...
Using my sense of humor to connect with others and put them at ease.
When I'm not at work...
I enjoy a variety of things from helping my children and my parents to spending some free time with the guys. My family and I enjoy spending time with friends either downhill skiing or boating. My wife and I also spend a lot of time running between football, baseball, and our children's other activities. It's a full life and I enjoy the busy times as much as the quiet times to sit, read, or just relax!
Kevin De Kock - Team Member
I'm Kevin. I now live and work in Grand Rapids, but am originally from Southern California. I moved to Michigan to follow in my parents footsteps and attend Calvin College. I now have a degree in Clinical Psychology. I started working for Liz at Seniors Moving Smarter last summer. When I took the job I didn't realize the extent of what we do for families. Plus, I couldn't believe it when my first day on the job I ended up working for my best college friend's grandparents! It was pretty cool to see that first apartment come together and know that it was for someone I knew. I enjoy seeing our clients, their family, and friends at ease during what tends to be a very stressful time.
Best skill...
Using my tremendous height to reach things in very high places.
When I'm not at work...
I enjoy working with children and adolescents at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services. And in my free time I enjoy playing sports, reading, and watching movies.
Liz McCulloch - Owner

Hi. I'm Liz. I started Seniors Moving Smarter in November 2006 after leaving a job I no longer found satisfying. The idea for Seniors Moving Smarter came from many years of working in the health care field as a medical social worker. During that time, I helped 100's, if not 1000's, of patients find appropriate housing that could meet their changing needs. I witnessed first hand how stressful the mere thought of moving can be, let alone the alone physical exhaustion of the family or friends trying to help with the move. I often thought, "There must be a better way."
Well, here we are, entering our 6th year and our services and strengths continue to grow. The team has grown from just one (me!) to 8. Every member of the team comes with their own unique set of skills, but most importantly they all possess a sincere desire to connect with and positively impact another's life.
I love that they take the time to get to know our clients and really discover how we can best serve them. We've laughed with our clients and we've cried. As a social worker I was intimately involved in one's life and this job is no different. I cherish that our clients and their loved ones trust us the way they do.
Best skill...
Understanding the big picture.
When I'm not working (some think this never happens, but it does!)...
I love gardening, anything to do with water, and of course my weimaraner, Lilly! You'll often find me out socializing with friends or meeting new acquaintances. I love to travel and am a huge nature lover and environmentalist. I try to spend as much time as possible on the water and love to take my nephews fishing.
Lisa Suttorp - Team Member

Hello! My name is Lisa, I joined Seniors Moving Smarter in 2011. I am a lifetime resident of West Michigan and love this state! I have attended college for architecture and design. I worked 10 years at a local bank and 9 years at Lincoln Brick where I worked in their showroom with clients choosing brick colors, in their engraving department designing engravings and as their purchaser expediting orders. I was introduced to SMS by a friend in the retirement community business. She couldn’t say enough great things about this company. I love working with and helping people so this is a great job for me and I love it!
Best Skill...
I am a great packer! I was a European exchange student with Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in high school. We were only allowed one bag to travel with so everything accumulated over the month had to still fit in the same “full” suitcase you flew over with.
When I'm not at work...
I enjoy time with my family, husband of 16 years, two daughters, and a dog. We camp as much as we can all summer long! I am an amateur photographer, and cake decorator. I love boating, swimming, skiing, crafting, and home projects.
Tory Duca - Sales and Marketing

Hi, I'm Tory. I am originally from Grand Rapids and recently moved back after living all over the country. I have lived in California, Arizona, Arkansas and Massachusetts. My husband's job has taken us all over during the last 20 years. I definitely enjoyed the experience, but am happy to be back home. I can say from experience that Grand Rapids is a great place to live and raise a family.
My husband Bob and I have been married for 18 years and have 3 daughters. They are very involved in sports including volleyball, field hockey, basketball and lacrosse. I had been a stay at home mom until I started working with Liz. I have done a lot of volunteer work in my daughter's schools from lunch mom to PTA president. I am excited to be out and about in the work place again. I love to meet people and am eager to help in any way I can.
When I'm not at work...
I love to cook and garden. In the summer we like to go to the beach and visit Cape Cod with friends and family. Most of my weekends are spent cheering my girls on all over the state of Michigan!
Amy VanFossen - Team Member
Hi. I'm Amy. I have lived in West Michigan the majority of my life, except for a few years living in San Francisco and Washington, DC. I moved back to Michigan 10 years ago when I was about to have my oldest daughter and have been happy to be back here to raise a family. I joined Seniors Moving Smarter in the Fall of 2010 after meeting Liz through a mutual friend. I love working with Liz and all of my team members. I am a very organized person and I look at packing and unpacking like fitting together pieces of a puzzle. It is very rewarding and satisfying to see the results of our efforts in a clients home. After staying home with my daughters for many years it was great to find a job that was flexible and made me feel like I was providing a great service to our clients. I am also a Registered Dietitian and I have a few consulting positions in the community. Previous to working as a Dietitian I held a variety of positions in the Social Work field.
Best Skill...
Organization!
When I'm not at work...
I am the mother of two daughters ages 7 and 9 1/2. They keep me busy with volunteering at school and taking them to dance and gymnastics. I love to read and I try to exercise consistently. I also like to make jewelry and do other craft projects.
Cathy Wehlage - Consultant to the Team
Hi! I'm Cathy. Liz and I began working together years ago. We both have experience in the health care field and working with the elderly. I, too, am a master's level clinician and have worked in hospitals, long term care facilities and memory care units. My role at Seniors Moving Smarter is to provide consultation to the team and to their clients. The team is very skilled at getting the job done, but like all of us, the education and discovery of how to work with clients and their vast array physical and cognitive issues is ongoing. Liz and I study and consult with each other to continunally improve the services provided by Seniors Moving Smarter and their team.
My full time profession - well, surprise, surprise - I'm a patient advocate. I recently launched Simplified Care, LLC. I help clients and their families better understand their health care and their options. Please check out my brochure and visit me on the web at www.SimplifiedCare.com
