Moving A Loved One with Dementia
When I worked in nursing homes years ago, we knew how detrimental, yet often necessary it was to move someone with dementia. If you know or have known someone with dementia, you have done just that: known someone with dementia. No two individuals suffering from dementia are the same. Some exhibit poor judgment, decreased ability to perform familiar tasks, and/or suffer from mood or behavioral changes. While others may misplace articles, no longer initiate regular daily activities, or have a change in personality. This alone makes it a challenge to move someone with dementia, let alone dealing with the myriad of family emotions that usually accompanies the situation.
I am continually researching the latest techniques on how to best help an individual suffering from dementia and how to move them as successfully as possible. I am educating my staff, the staff at communities specializing in memory care and myself to stay on top of the latest school of thought.
Please count on us to know how to to make moving a loved one with dementia as successful as it can be - for them and for you.
